GroupLunch is a food delivery startup specialized in a niche market that cannot be served by conventional food delivery services.

The founders came up with the idea for GroupLunch while working in their offices in Luxembourg. They saw that there weren’t many delivery options for lunch and decided that they wanted to bring restaurant quality food into offices at a great price. By developing an innovative delivery process, they have been able to do exactly that.

With an idea and ambition, the co-founders quit their jobs and started small. In the beginning they were delivering themselves. We are happy to have gone through that experience even though it was hard. It really made us understand the business from the bottom up and made us experts in the operations behind our business,” said co-founder Marc Jansen.

The startup has developed an innovative logistics system for office workers, who make up the company’s core market, to place a lunch order for delivery. In fact, the system enables the company to deliver the food to the end customer at 10% of the cost per order compared with larger delivery services and caterers. GroupLunch is able to pass on the cost savings to the office workers in the form of lower end prices, free delivery and no minimum order requirements. At the same time, the startup is also able to guarantee its customers consistent and timely service.

GroupLunch aims to provide office workers with a system that is perfectly suited to their needs. “With a large variety of over 100 meals on offer daily, at a price of around 5-7 Euros, with no minimum order quantity or delivery fees, GroupLunch guarantees a delicious and affordable lunch delivered, on time, to your door,” asserted Mr. Jansen.
The startup is currently thinking about expanding into international markets and becoming a significant player in Europe. The founders intend to further develop the company’s operational capabilities, as they have identified that there is untapped potential that could possibly lead to new opportunities.

For now, they are currently in the fundraising process, as the next step is to set up a central organizational structure that can provide support functions for the operations in the new locations they expect to set up in Benelux and Germany. Headquartered in Luxembourg, GroupLunch’s founders agree this country is a great place for testing a concept before rolling it out in other places. “We believe Luxembourg City was the perfect market for us to launch the business, as the international nature of the city makes it representative of the larger European markets we intend to expand into, and the smaller size of the city has allowed us to thoroughly understand the client, help us innovate and develop key aspects of the business we can now scale across Europe,” concludes Marc Jansen.
