In 2014, the startup ecosystem in Luxembourg had a breakout year with the launch of many exciting new organizations and initiatives that support entrepreneurs and startups. Luxembourg has long been entrepreneur-friendly, and now these new resources make it even easier and more profitable to launch new companies in Luxembourg. Micaël Weber, Head of International Business Development for POST Telecom, gives details about some startups.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how many entrepreneurs come to Luxembourg in 2015 to take advantage of this unique startup environment. Here are some of the highlights that took place in the Luxembourg startup ecosystem in 2014:

Silicon Luxembourg
Startup activity in Luxembourg is so dynamic that a media website has been created to present current news, activities and events. Here you’ll find news about recent startups, learn what drives successful entrepreneurs and get insight into incubators, VCs, R&D centers and government programs. 1+1+1 Company
An important initiative of great interest to entrepreneurs gained traction this year in the business community. Called “1-1-1 Company,” it is a proposal to allow one person to form one Luxembourg company in one day with one Euro of capital. Strongly backed by the American Chamber of Commerce and structured after an original proposal by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, it is now being considered by the Luxembourg government. NOTE: As this blog was being posted, the Luxembourg government passed the 1-1-1 initiative! More information will be given in a future blog.

Girls in Tech
March 2014 saw the launch of the local Luxembourg chapter of “Girls in Tech.” Part of a global organization, the Luxembourg group focuses on the engagement, education and empowerment of women in technology. Its goal is to foster the growth and success of entrepreneurial, innovative women in technology sectors. Already very active, it sponsors events, training and, in partnership with Amazon, is offering a series of workshops on topics ranging from programming, Web design, database overview (SQL) and Agile project management.
