IDC has announced the All-Flash and Hybrid Flash Array market leaders in their latest special study, “Worldwide All-Flash and Hybrid Flash Array Market: 1H2014 Vendor Shares and Market Outlook,” identifying EMC as #1 in all-flash and hybrid flash array market share. EMC was the market share leader in several categories, including 1H2014 Worldwide Hybrid Flash Array Revenue by Vendor and the Raw SSD Capacity Shipments by Vendor category. EMC also led the all-flash market in the 1H2014 Worldwide All-Flash Array Revenue by Vendor categories.

According to IDC, it’s crucial for vendors to incorporate enterprise-class data services such as snapshots, clones, encryption, replication and QoS, as well as storage efficiency features like in-line compression and deduplication and provisioning. IDC predicts that vendors offering the best platforms for mixed workload consolidations will be the standouts.

All-Flash Market
EMC officially entered the all-flash array market in the second half of 2013 with XtremIO and in less than a year got to a leading position on this market. Despite less time on the market than other arrays, XtremIO has grown faster than any of its competitors, and now holds the #1 spot for revenue in the all-flash array market for 1H’14. Recall that during EMC’s third quarter earnings announcement, XtremIO was reported as exceeding a $500 million annualized demand run rate, highlighting the continued rapid adoption of the product.

Hybrid Flash Array Market
EMC also led the hybrid flash array market, on which it has several offerings including VNX, VMAX, Isilon and legacy Celerra and CLARiiON families. EMC continues to raise the bar in flash innovations with the VNX2 and VMAX3, enabling customers to boost performance AND lower costs. Combined
With 58.7 petabytes of flash storage capacity shipped in 1H 2014, EMC ranked first among its competitors in the combined all-flash and hybrid flash arrays market. This amount of flash capacity made up for 20.7% of the combined market in 1H 2014.
