Fujitsu Simplifies EDP’s SAP HANA Landscape

Fujitsu announces its successful delivery of an optimized infrastructure and a comprehensive service offering to ensure that the SAP HANA landscape of one of Portugal’s largest companies, EDP (Energias de Portugal, S.A.), is fully operational ahead of the deadline for liberalization of the Portuguese energy market in 2015. By this time, all energy customers in Portugal must migrate their contracts to a certified supplier, and EDP believes it achieves a competitive advantage based on real-time insights of its customers and their needs via the resulting Customer Relationship Management (CRM) business application, streamlined and simplified by Fujitsu.

EDP is a vertically integrated utility company, the largest generator, distributor and supplier of electricity in Portugal, and one of the largest electricity generation companies and distributors of gas across the Iberian Peninsula. Since 2000, electricity supply in its home market has been open to competition, and will be fully liberalized from January 2016 onwards. Within this context, EDP decided to implement an integrated CRM business application, based on SAP HANA, that will enable it to better understand its customers’ preferences, identify and segment customer groups by multiple-choice criteria, and so enable it to deliver services targeted to meet customer needs.

As a trusted SAP Global Partner for over 40 years, Fujitsu was a perfect choice of partner for EDP. Fujitsu has successfully helped thousands of customers worldwide to simplify, innovate and grow based on its reliable and innovative Information and Communications Technology solutions. In this case, the company’s in-depth technology expertise on SAP HANA solutions was crucial for EDP’s decision. Fujitsu’s knowledge, engagement and support of the EDP team during the Proof of Concept phase, and the comprehensive service contract proposed positively influenced the customer’s reference architecture definition as well as the final decision.

Fujitsu empowers businesses like EDP to achieve their objectives and take the lead over their competition. Fujitsu infrastructure solutions for SAP HANA, based on powerful, industry-standard PRIMERGY and PRIMEQUEST servers, are highly cost-efficient and scalable to match mission-critical readiness with the lowest total cost of ownership.

Fujitsu drives innovation in all areas – from cloud services via managed SAP operations to solutions and services for on-premise deployments. The Fujitsu portfolio for SAP includes advanced technologies and services capabilities to deliver tailored future-proof solutions. In collaboration with our customers and specialist partners, Fujitsu reduces complexity and optimizes the investment in SAP applications and the SAP HANA platform. The result is a more efficient enterprise, exceptional ROI and better business outcomes.

Raphael Ensinger, Strategy & Governance, Global SAP Solutions, BAS, Global Delivery, Fujitsu said “This announcement positions Fujitsu as one of the handful of partners able to deliver optimized data center solutions for SAP HANA and associated services within local markets, such as Portugal, while scaling to cover global requirements for an international energy concern such as EDP, with operations in 13 countries and 12,000 employees around the world.”
