Last week, the Kerry Hotel Pudong just next door to the exhibition centre in Shanghai was the scene of a recognition of everything that is best about the global air cargo industry. The Luxembourg-based EDIfly, won the Information Technology for the Air Cargo Industry Award 2012.

EDIfly was founded by the CTO of Innovative Software s.à.r.l. and encryption specialist Anders Dam Jensen, architect of the innovative EDIfly suite. Anders Dam Jensen -former VP Operations & Development at CHAMP Cargosystems and Director IT at Cargolux Airlines-, was driven by the desire to bring more security, reliability and a more logical charging model to managing data exchanges than archaic tariff structures that reflect the era of Teletype communication.

EDIfly provides a sleek and uncomplicated platform to bring Messaging 2.0 to your process communication: In aviation, rail, logistics etc. A fully back-wards-compatible environment enables you to gradually cut-over processes avoiding ‚big-bang’ scenarios, where you would change all your services to one new supplier in ‚one logical second’.

Air freight luminaries gathered for an evening of entertainment and networking, but mainly to celebrate alongside the 10 well-deserving winners of the Air Cargo Week 2012 World Air Cargo Awards – and, indeed, with those who just missed out on a trophy. The ACW awards were the centrepiece of an evening that also took in a champagne reception before dinner and a five-piece band, with the event being hosted by BBC presenter Nadia Dunn.

Picking up his award, Ingo Rössler, chief commercial officer of EDIfly, winner of the IT category, said: “I want to dedicate this to one person and
one company.” The person is CTO Anders Dam Jensen, “who had the vision to develop this unique technology to relieve the industry of hundreds of
millions in costs”. And the company is Cargolux, which “had the vision and the courage to take on this new technology to really improve the operating environment and to achieve returns on investment that are difficult to imagine in any kind of business”.
