An article in the Dutch CIO Magazine has covered a round table BT and Compuware hosted on the relationship between IT and business-oriented technology. One of the ways to improve and simplify this relationship is an intelligent managed, hybrid network environment.

The focus shifts towards on-demand IT services: monitoring and managing the performance of a diverse IT reality. It seems IT executives find it hard to gauge the real performance of the applications that are crucial for the digital experience of its user.

“But the users does not accept more this IT. He aspires to ICT that works simple on an integrated way”, said Frank De Reymaeker, Head of Enterprise Networking & Security at Cisco Systems Belgium (photo).

Real-time management

To manage it all, a key driver can ensure customer and user experience in delivering the right information – at the right time, to the right person, in the right way, increasingly independent from the devices and systems used.
In the middle of it all, is the BT network solution and services ecosystem that offers real-time management encompassing the network functions including monitoring, analytics, path selection, load balancing, local internet break-outs, webVPNs, security and application acceleration, among others using tools by Compuware.
Rethinking the network

However, many information sources and systems are still organized in silos. In these cases, extracting and combining data, as well as performance monitoring and application management are possible but often in a fragmented and inconsistent way.

Hybrid is intelligent

The intelligent hybrid network offers an alternative. Applying intelligent monitoring and optimization tools in the (hybrid) network, allows for real-time performance monitoring and optimisation, enabling swift responses to changing needs, increases transparency and overall agility.

This way of performance monitoring, including the IT resources in and outside the cloud, also helps in defining where applications should ideally run: on premise, in private clouds or in the public cloud…Hybrid.

Tools and keys

As BT’s Head of Product Management BT Connect in Europe and LATAM, Tom de Wit emphasized, the network needs to be rethought: “it’s all about using technology with which business and IT can be aligned as much as possible, even within complex and hybrid environments.

8 drivers for the need to have a different view on the network : increasing bandwidth demand due to the use of video, unified communications in the cloud, an increase of sophisticated online threats, mobile users bypassing firewalls and proxies, the increasing usage of mobile devices as such, application-oriented networks and SLAs, the ongoing penetration of the cloud and, finally, new technologies for application delivery control and path selection. When combined, this enables the intelligent hybrid network. The result of this approach ? A clear competitive advantage for the business in terms of service, costs, users experience, performance, flexibility and security.

During an interview, Jeff De Graef, Global Practice Head UCC at BT Global Services, explain that the ICT department offers a huge potential to support and stimulate business innovation and, through a future-oriented and comprehensive that it can handle from beginning to end approach. But CIO spend a lot of time with purely operational tasks. BT adopts here the role strategic partner – closely Conferencing With Cisco – able to offer this larger context.

The next roundtable between BT and Cisco, will take place on 26th June 2014 at Melia Hotel about “Art of Connecting”.
