Navigating the smart city revolution in emerging markets

by EY Luxembourg

January 15, 2018

Cities around the world are growing fast and particularly in emerging economies. The United Nations has predicted that nearly all global population growth from 2016 to 2030 will be absorbed by cities which represent nearly 1.1 billion urbanites over this period. This unprecedented level of urbanization brings both challenges and opportunities for emerging economies’ businesses and societies at a large.

In this context, technology will be crucial in meeting these challenges and seizing these opportunities through the implementation and use of smart infrastructures for instance. How well governments, entrepreneurs and businesses cooperate will determine how effectively smart sustainable solutions to urban development in emerging markets could be.  At EY, we call this “the power of 3”. The shared mission of these 3 actors is to build better working urban cities in the emerging economies landscape.
